Trends come and go, but one fashion staple has stood the test of time: the timeless trench coat. For decades, this classic piece of outerwear has been a go-to for both function and style. But with so many ways to wear it, how do you find your own unique twist on this wardrobe essential? In this article, we’ll explore 10 easy ways to rock a trench coat, from casual to chic. The Trench
The trench coat that I’ll be wearing in all the outfits is from Amazon. It’s by the Amazon House brand The Drop and it’s called the Emilia Elongated Trench. It comes in the colors black and hummus (the khaki color I’m wearing), and is a double breasted style with an optional tie waist.
This trench has a roomy fit, and I should have sized down to a small. It was plenty big for sweaters underneath, but I think I would have liked the fit better if it were a little smaller. So, if you are undecided, you might want to size down or go with your normal size…no need to size up.
Also, this is a longer length jacket, and measures 51″ to 53″ depending on the size you choose. It hit me around mid -calf and I’m 5’7″.
Although you can certainly style it the traditional way with the tie in the front, most women are wearing them styled with the tie in the back and the buttons opened. If the weather is wet or very cold, I would of course button it up and tie it in the front.
Trench Coat Outfit #1
This first outfit is a simple and classic white button down that I have shared several times. The weight and drape of this top is so nice. My pants are from Athleta and my ballet flats are from Amazon.
Outfit #2
You will notice that all of these outfits use wardrobe basics, and pieces that you probably have in your closet. Outfit #2 features a trench coat over a simple black fitted tee, medium wash straight leg jeans, and black sneakers.
Outfit #3
Another combination to wear under your trench coat is white denim with the same black tee. Switch out the shoes to the ballet flats and you have yet another outfit idea!
My white sherpa/faux fur handbag is from Kate Spade (last year). This is a good way to add interest when you are styling basics. This year they have a beige sherpa /faux fur bag that is adorable!

Let’s take this next trench coat outfit idea down even more casual. Make your leggings look chic with a basic hoodie, sneakers, and black handbag. Top it off with your trench coat and you are set for running errands.

These New Heights Trousers from Aerie are the perfect blend of lounge pants that can also be dressed up and worn out. Paired with a Target sweater, this is another easy and classic trench coat outfit.
Outfit #8
Not only can you wear a trench coat to elevate leggings, but it also works with joggers as well. This is a typical work from home outfit for me with a simple white tee, my favorite Aerie OTT Fleece Joggers. These run very big, so size down. I’m wearing a size XXS.
My sneakers are from Walmart, and they are even more comfortable than my expensive Adidas Sambas.

This is such a simple trench coat outfit, yet I need to point out the cutest Shearling Mary Jane Flats from Target. They come in cream and black and are very comfortable!

Similar Khaki striped sweater + similar wide leg jeans + mules + trench coat
Another variation with stripes, but this time with a wide leg jean. I’m loving this pair from Loft Outlet. I can’t link them, but this pair from Loft is similar. This look is dressed up a bit more with the mules and the faux fur handbag.
As you can see, the outfit ideas with a trench coat and endless. At the very least, you have 10 outfit ideas to help you out when you don’t know what to wear. If you have a trench coat to finish off the look…even better.
