January can be the perfect time to refresh you living space and update your decor for winter. I live in Georgia, so our winters are relatively short; however it can still be cold and dreary. Resetting and redecorating after the holiday season really helps my mood stay positive!

Today I’m taking you along as I refresh my living room for January. Embracing the true season of winter with a few new pieces to brighten the space and giving my eyes something new to enjoy. A trip to Home Goods or T.J. Maxx is just what I needed after taking down all the Christmas decor. I just wanted to pick up a few things to update my bookcases and I found a few other treasures as well.

I came home with two pieces of art, 2 lampshades, a decorative throw pillow, and a new tablecloth and napkins for the breakfast area. The art is for my bookshelves, and the two prints coordinate with tones of blush.

I started by emptying everything out and cleaning the shelves and glass doors. I have two identical bookcases on each side of the fireplace. As I’m decorating them I like them to mirror each other, but not exactly match.

For the rest of the accessories, I shopped my basement. This is the room where I keep all my seasonal and home decor. I know it looks like a lot…what can I say?

Bookcase #1 Finished Product

Using the new piece of art as my starting off point, I incorporated some lighter and brighter tones as well as some winter decor. Some sprigs of pine in the blue vases, and the deer keep the winter vibe without being too much like Christmas.
Bookcase #2
Moving over the the next bookcase, I started with the other piece of art and then worked from there. I don’t decorate for Valentine’s day, but I do have one heart themed piece that I have used for years.

Again, choosing some lighter and brighter colors and still keeping a winter element or two.

Here is a view looking at both bookcases. By the way, I’m loving the rechargeable lamps for the mantle and side table. They add so much ambience to a room with no cords to disguise! Mine came from Home Goods, but you can find them just about anywhere. This set from Amazon is similar.

Living Room Winter Decor
After conquering the bookcases, I moved on to the rest of my living room with a few updates post Christmas. You will notice a few flocked trees, and some pine greenery to keep it seasonally appropriate.

I also like to use my snowflake decor throughout January. In fact, we are supposed to get a major snow/ice storm this weekend, so they fit right in with the weather. The snowflakes are from Hobby Lobby, and the mini greenhouse is from Ikea. A terrarium is fun to decorate so many ways for all seasons. This one and this one from Amazon are similar.

My Faux Fur Throw adds nice warmth and texture. I have washed and dried it several times, and it has held up well. I’m also loving my spiral bound study bible and guide. These were Christmas gifts from my husband.

The new lampshade and pillow also brightened up the space, and I can use them going into spring. Often, it’s just a subtle touch that can make such a difference.
Daisy, Molly, and I are all happy with how this living room refresh turned out. It felt good to move out the Christmas and have something new to look at. Even if you don’t buy new pieces, shop around your home and repurpose things is different ways. The possibilities are endless!
