When you buy a staple piece for your wardrobe, you should always be able to wear it multiple ways. This is especially true if it happens to be an investment piece. I love the classic style of J. Crew, but they are pricey! I generally only shop at J.Crew Factory, but even then the prices can be on the higher end. Today, I’m going to show you 4 ways to style a plaid skirt, and I think you will agree there is a look here for just about any occasion.
I centered this post on a neutral colored plaid A-line skirt from J.Crew Factory. They carry this style in different prints every year. They are classic and look good with tights or bare legs. Now the bad news…I can’t find this exact skirt on the J.Crew Factory website! Even though they show it with other pieces for some reason it’s not available online. I’m so sorry! If you live near a J.Crew Factory store, they may have it. I purchased mine in-store.
The good news is that all the other pieces are available, and I have some very similar options for the skirt. You could even use these ideas to style a plaid skirt that you already have in your closet. So let’s get started.
Here are some similar skirts. The first one down below is most like the J. Crew one I’m wearing. It’s from Amazon. The others are all J. Crew skirts and should fit the same. I also have the navy and green plaid from last year. I also included some solids in the same A-line style.
Here is the navy and green buffalo plaid from last year styled for Christmas!
Outfit #1
This outfit formula is always a hit. A pullover sweater + skirt + tall boots. The sweater is the ribbed puff sleeve sweater in the color mushroom. It also comes in grey, red, and pink. This is a warmer weather piece, and is very soft. I’m wearing a medium in the sweater and a size 10 in the skirt.
My tall suede boots are a couple of years old now, and still going strong. I will link some similar styles.
Outfit #2
The next outfit is a casual look. This graphic pumpkin tee is so cute, and there are other fall themed graphic tees to choose from as well. I’m wearing a size large in the tee, and I finished off the outfit with a denim jacket and sneakers.
Outfit #3
J. Crew Factory has some great classic style sweaters. The cotton/wool blend teddy sweater is a must have. It comes in several colors, and here I’m wearing the heritage green in a size medium.
If you are looking for a new pair of ankle boots this year, consider a white or creamy white. They are very on trend and can be found at a wide range of price points. My white boots are by Time And Tru (Walmart) and have a bit of a western style. They are from last year, and unfortunately out of stock. I will link some similar options.
Outfit #4
The last outfit is a blend of dressy and casual. For this look the skirt is still the focal point, and it is paired with a simple white turtle neck and this puffer vest. For size reference, I’m wearing a large in the turtle neck, and a small in the vest.
I would say the vest runs a little big. I normally would not wear a small, but they didn’t have a medium and since I was not planning to wear the vest zipped the small worked fine.
This outfit is completed with these pink faux suede loafers from Time And Tru.
