From effortless blending to lasting power, we’ll explore all the ways that cream blush can help you achieve a picture-perfect complexion. So, if you’re ready to learn some new makeup tips keep reading to learn about the many perks of using cream blush.
Cream and liquid blushes have skyrocketed in popularity with all ages of women, but did you know that they actually look better on mature skin than powder formulas? Cream blush can enhance your complexion by providing a natural, dewy, and youthful glow. This is particularly helpful for dry and mature skin. Since it is more hydrating, it creates a more smooth skin-like finish resulting in a radiant look.
Enhanced Blendability & Natural Finish
Cream blush is generally easier to blend because of it’s emollient formula allowing it to melt into the skin and blend seemlessly. These products often contain moisturizing ingredients which help it move effortlessly across the skin giving you more time to blend and build the color.

Tips to apply cream blush:
- Place the product on the back of the hand first instead of directly on the face.
- Use either a damp makeup sponge, your finger, or a make brush to blend the product into the cheeks
- You will want to go higher than you might think. Think about lifting and blending up near the temples. Applying blush too low will drag your face down.
Cream Blush Is Suitable For All Skin Types
Cream blushes are generally suitable for all skin types due to their buildable and blendable formulas, which allow for a natural, healthy-looking flush. While they are often favored for dry and mature skin due to their hydrating properties and ability to impart a dewy finish, many cream blushes are designed to work well on oily and combination skin as well. For oily skin, some may prefer powder blushes to help control shine, but cream blushes can still be a great option if they are long-wearing and don’t emphasize texture.

I recently purchased these two shades of cream blush by Moira. These are the Soft Blush Balms and the lighter shade is Fair Play and the darker shade is called Talk 2 Me. I have really been enjoying both of these formulas and plan to purchase more colors. There are 12 shades in all and retail for just under $10.

Another new cream blush formula that I recently tried for the first time is the L’oreal Lumi Le Liquid Blush. Technically it is a liquid blush, but I find liquid blushes and cream blushes perform very similar. If you have extremely dry skin, then I think cream formulas are just a little more hydrating.
I tried the shade Dewey Rich Coral and it is lovely, but a little warm for my skin tone. Next time I would prefer a cooler toned pink.
Long Lasting Formula

Cream blush has a longer wear-time compared to powder blush. This is because they melt into the skin creating a more natural flush. Unlike powder, which can sit on top of the skin, cream blush can adhere better to the skin’s natural oils, making it less likely to slide off. This is particularly helpful in the hot humid months.
Cream blushes can be layered with powder blushes for a more intense and long-lasting color payoff. Or you can lightly set the cream blush with a setting powder; however I like the glow so I rarely powder my face. The right powder can help disguise texture if applied sparingly.
Multifunctional Product
Cream blushes can also be multi-tasking. They can be used on the lips and eye as well as the cheeks. Carrying the same color from you cheek to your eyelid with a subtle wash of the same color gives a very cohesive and natural look.
When traveling, this will allow you to pack minimal products, save time, and save valuable space. My personal collection is full of cream blushes so I will link some of my favorites! You might also enjoy this post from earlier all about cream blushes.
Buildable and Customizable Coverage

Try applying sheer layers of cream blush in neutral tones for a natural look, letting the glow shine through. You can also use a highlighter underneath the cream blush for a soft glow. I like the L’oreal Lumi Glotion or the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter.
For a more bold or evening look, you can choose a more intense color and build it up to your preference. Just be careful to blend, and as I mentioned before – apply to the back of your hand first. Then use your finger, a sponge, or brush to apply to cheeks.
So the next time your are browsing the makeup isle, try a cream blush formula! Once you try it, you probably won’t want to go back to powder blush. Cream blush really does help my 54 year old skin look better than it is, and I feel more confident wearing it.
