The old money aesthetic is often described as timeless…and it is, but right now it also happens to be on trend. You are seeing lots of classic styles and tailored silhouettes as opposed to the oversized looks. Also basic elevated neutrals made from quality fabrics are favored over fast fashion quantity.
If you love this look but don’t have a cashmere budget, don’t despair. I will show you the essential pieces that fit most every budget that will have you looking so elegant and chic!
This post will focus on fall and winter essentials so let’s start with outerwear.
Old Money Outerwear Essentials
When building a classic wardrobe, a trench coat probably immediately comes to mind. There are so many options for price points, and you do not have to spend a lot for a quality trench coat. They look great with any outfit and look very chic.
This one from Banana Republic Factory is a good choice at a moderate price range of $138
For some trench coats under $100, here are some good options:
I love pretty much any coat from J. Crew Factory! This long wool coat comes in several colors and is affordable. Here are some other beautiful wool coats for your old money aesthetic…
Slip Skirt
Not only is a slip skirt a classic, but they are having quite a moment this year. I featured two of my favorites in this post. I like the Amazon version and the Old Navy slip skirt.
Sweater Dress
The most classic and sophisticated style sweater dress is a midi style. This one from Amazon looks so expensive, but it’s very affordable!
Sweaters
Old money wardrobe essentials for fall & winter include some specific styles of sweaters. Of course you don’t have to have them all, but think more timeless styles when choosing sweaters this year, like a cashmere sweater, a cable knit style, or a classic cardigan.
If you can’t afford cashmere, there are several cashmere blends available that will give you the same upscale look and soft feel without the high price tag.
Pants & Jeans
As far as essentials, you can really get by with just a few key pieces. A pair of trousers, classic blue jeans, and high quality black leggings.
For trousers, think basic colors that go with most of your tops. Black is the most versatile, but consider a winter white or burgundy trouser for 2024.
If you enjoy the old money aesthetic, then this should get you off to a good start in creating that quiet luxury wardrobe that you can enjoy for years.
