Best Shorts For Women Over 50

Summer is officially here and that means shorts season! Let’s take a look at some of the best shorts for women and especially those like me who are over 50. We will also discuss the trends in shorts for 2025, and I will give you some tips on how to wear shorts and feel confident this season.

2025 Shorts Trends

I have good news for us midlife women who have no use for bootie shorts and ripped denim…those are out of style! Even for younger women, more refined and elegant shorts are definitely on trend this year. Last year I did not purchase a single pair of denim shorts, and guess what? I didn’t miss them one bit. I do not plan to wear denim shorts this year either; however if you like them simply find a pair that is more conservative. This pair from Madewell has a darker wash and looks more chic.

In general, avoid shorts with rips or tears. Think refined and simple. No need for full on bermuda length shorts, but mid length and longer styles look more elegant.

Trouser Style Shorts

Think trouser inspired shorts that are a modest length. These will look good paired with tees, tanks, summer sweaters, and button down shirts.

For a more casual look, I like to wear soft knit shorts. The Zella Whisper Knit Pleated Shorts are amazing! They come in a few different colors, and I’m wearing the shade Tan Portabella. I paired it with a cardigan sweater from Amazon. I love this piece for just the perfect weight summer sweater.

Linen Shorts

Linen shorts will always be in style, and this is a great choice for summer. They can be dressed up or down and always look put together and chic. This drawstring style from Loft looks promising, although I haven’t personally tried them.
