How To Rock A Summer Hat This Season

Summer is here, and with it comes the sweltering heat of the sun. But fear not, because a stylish and practical solution is at hand: the summer hat. Not only can hats protect you from harmful UV rays, but they can also give your outfit that extra pizzazz. In this post, we’ll explore the ins and outs of summer hat styles, from how to choose the right material to how to accessorize with your hat.

Choose The Right Material

When it comes to choosing a summer hat, the material is just as important as the style. You want a hat that is lightweight and breathable, so your head doesn’t feel like it’s suffocating in the summer heat. Opt for materials like straw, cotton, linen, or even a blend of these fabrics. These materials allow air to circulate, keeping you cool and comfortable.

And don’t forget about maintenance. Different materials require different care methods. Straw hats, for example, are more delicate and should be kept out of the rain and harsh sunlight. Cotton and linen hats can be machine washed or hand washed with mild detergent.

Now that you know what to look for in terms of material, let’s talk about finding the perfect fit for your summer hat.

Find The Perfect Fit

When it comes to choosing the right summer hat, finding the perfect fit is just as important as selecting the right material. A hat that is too loose or too tight can be uncomfortable and may not provide the optimal level of sun protection. Personally, I have a small head so I look for an adjustable hat that isn’t too big for my small face.

To determine the correct hat size, measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and ears. Then, refer to the size chart provided by the manufacturer to select the appropriate size.

It’s also important to consider the style of the hat and how it fits with your personal style. If you prefer a more classic look, a wide-brimmed straw hat may be the perfect fit for you.

Or, if you’re looking for something more playful, a colorful baseball cap or floppy beach hat might be the way to go. Experimenting with different styles can help you find the perfect hat for any summer occasion.

So, whether you’re lounging poolside or exploring a new city, a well-fitted summer hat can be both functional and fashionable. Now that you know how to find the perfect fit, it’s time to start experimenting with different styles to find your ideal summer hat.

Experiment With Different Styles

If you’re looking to add a little something extra to your summer wardrobe, a stylish hat may be just the thing. But with so many styles to choose from, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. That’s where experimentation comes in.

Fedora Style

The classic fedora style is flattering to most women. I also like this style hat because it isn’t too big and is good for travel.

Large Rim Straw Hat

For sun protection and beating the heat, this is my favorite style. Large rim straw hats are easy to find and never really go out of style. I’ve had the hat in the photo above for years. It’s the Brixton Joanna Straw Hat and it’s been my favorite summer hat for several seasons.

I also think the Time And Tru Straw Hats from Walmart are a great value. The one in the photo above is a great neutral shade, but I also have them in other colors. This two-pack is a great deal!

For the pool, I like a hat with a flat back. This one from Amazon is similar.

Bucket Hat

A bucket hat will give a more playful and casual look.

Here are some cute bucket hat styles to browse.

Baseball Style Hat or Visor

For athletic activities, I usually prefer a baseball style hat or a visor. I would normally have my hair in a ponytail, but for the sake of these photos I left my hair down.

You can buy inexpensive visors anywhere, but I’m really enjoying this higher quality Lululemon visor for Pickleball.

For baseball style hats, I prefer the Columbia hats for breathable fabrics.

Trying out different styles of hats can help you find the perfect fit for any occasion and complement your personal style.

Consider The Occasion

Now that you’ve selected your perfect summer hat and learned how to style it, it’s time to consider the occasion you’ll be wearing it for. Whether you’re attending a beach wedding or brunch with friends, different occasions call for different hats.

For a more formal occasion, a wide-brimmed straw hat or a fedora can be a great choice. These hats not only provide sun protection but also add a touch of sophistication to your look. Pair them with a flowy maxi dress or a skirt suit to complete the outfit.

If you’re planning on spending a day at the beach or pool, a floppy hat or a visor can be a stylish yet practical option. These hats not only protect your face from the sun but also keep your hair out of your face. Pair them with your favorite swimsuit and a cover-up for a chic beach look.

For a day out running errands or exploring a new city, a baseball cap or a bucket hat can be a comfortable and casual choice. They’re easy to wear and provide ample sun protection. Pair them with a graphic tee and denim shorts or a sundress for a cute and casual look.

When selecting a summer hat, always consider the occasion you’ll be wearing it for. Each occasion calls for a different hat style and can elevate your look to the next level. With these tips, you’re sure to find the perfect hat for any occasion.
