Are you tired of spending hours and hundreds of dollars at the salon for getting the perfect gel manicure? Well, I have good news for you. With the rise in popularity of DIY beauty, at-home gel manicure kits have become more affordable, easy to use, and long-lasting. In this article, we will dive into the world of at-home gel manicures and show you how you can create a gel manicure kit. Get ready to say goodbye to costly salon appointments and hello to beautiful, long-lasting nails in the comfort of your own home.
My daughter and I have really enjoyed learning how to do our own gel manicures at home. It does take a little practice, but it’s really not that difficult, and I love not having to spend all the time and money at the nail salon.
We purchased everything we need to do our gel manicures on Amazon. FYI, you can also purchase dip powder on Amazon and we have used that as well. They turned out very pretty; however it is hard to remove and that’s we we prefer the gel polish instead.
What You Need For A Gel Manicure Kit
The Process:
Start by prepping your nails, and cleaning up your cuticles. This is very important if you want a professional looking manicure. Purchase a manicure kit like this one with a good set of cuticle trimmers, and something to push your cuticles back with.
I love the Blue Cross Cuticle Remover. Just squeeze the product all around your cuticles, then gently push them back, and then trim.
File your nails to the desired shape, and then wash your hands. Now you are ready for the polish.
I recommend the UV protection gloves to shield your skin from the light we will use to cure the gel polish. Go ahead and put those on at this point prior to applying polish.
Now you are ready for your clear base coat. Many of the Beetles kits that I recommended contain a base and top coat, but if you need these separately here is the link. This will be a shiny top coat, and many of the gel polish sets come with a shiny, matte, and glitter top coat.
Cure after each application of base coat and polish at the recommended time. You will need a UV LED Nail Lamp like this one to cure this polish.
Gel Nail Kit Polishes
There are so many gel nail polishes to choose from. I have used a couple different brands from Amazon, and I do recommend the Beetles polish and the Gaoy Nude Gel colors.
I would recommend starting off with a set with lots of colors like this one. This set includes all the base and tops coats plus tools, and the UV LED lamp for a good price.
I also like to purchase these swatch sticks so I can pick my color more easily. Simply use a sharpie to label each swatch with the corresponding color number.
Whether you like nudes, bright colors, or classic reds and pinks, there is no shortage of color options. Here are a few of my personal favorites. This one would be fun for Valentine’s Day.

Gel Manicure Kit Storage
You will want a good system for storing your gel manicure kit. If you have a large collection like I do, then you will probably like this one. My daughter and I both have this and we love it. It has multiple compartment for storing your polish and room for your UV light as well.
If you want to display your nail polish, you might like this clear tiered storage box.

Gel Manicure Removal
You will need Acetone to remove your gel nail polish. Sometimes I just peel mine off when the nail starts to grow out, but that’s not recommended.
I also ordered this product but I haven’t tried it yet, so I will let you know if it works.
Bonus Tip:
Have you seen the chrome nails? Salons charge quite a bit extra for this finishing touch to a gel manicure. You can purchase you own chrome powder and it is so easy to apply! I have this one and love the results!
It comes in a little pan similar to eyeshadow. You simply rub it on your nails and then apply a top coat and cure… so easy!
