The Beauty Of Disconnecting With An Analog Bag

Imagine a world without constant notifications, pings, and beeps vying for your attention; a world where the most important thing is the moment and being fully present in it. In our digital age, this may seem like an unattainable dream, but what if I told you that disconnecting from technology and connecting with an analog bag could bring you more joy and fulfillment than you ever thought possible?

Let’s explore the power and joy of disconnecting, as well as the benefits of carrying an analog bag in a digital world. As I myself am learning the importance of setting boundaries with technology I want to share the beauty of slowing down and being mindful. Here are some practical ways to incorporate an analog bag into your daily life. So put down your phone, grab a cozy spot, and get ready to unplug and discover the joy of disconnecting with an analog bag.

An analog bag is simply a pretty tote filled with screen free hobbies that you can reach for instead of scrolling your phone or mobile device.

Mindful downtime means that we choose to fill our time with things that get us off social media and give us a rest from the constant mental noise of technology. The next time you are in a restaurant, look around you. You will see tables where everyone is on their phone, in their own world. No conversation, just scrolling…it’s sad really.

Analog bags have become popular, because we crave actual mental stimulation that is peaceful and satisfying. Hobbies are healthy in my opinion, as long as they don’t become on obsession. Being creative and making something is human nature. If you are overwhelmed with AI and “doomscrolling” then an analog bag or hobby bag may be just what you need.

About a year ago, I really started to feel squeezed with social media. Even creating content for my website was becoming difficult with all the analytics, algorithms, and expectations. I began to step back a little and spend more time doing relaxing things.

One of my first hobbies was discovering adult coloring books. I have several, and sitting down and just enjoying this simple hobby is refreshing.

Think of an analog bag as an adult toy box that gives us something to do while we have downtime, and as an alternative to scrolling your phone. You might take your bag to the doctors office…we always have downtime there don’t we?

Anyplace that you might be waiting and you would normally reach for your phone is a good place to take your analog bag. Airports, car rides, hair salon appointments, school car lines…all good places to choose something from your analog bag instead of social media.

You can pick any hobby or topic of interest and educate yourself about it, and then enjoy the hobby just from watching a YouTube video. Also Skill Share is another good online resource for learning new things. So the internet is not bad…we can learn valuable things; however, then we need to take a break and do something else. Cooking, crafts, art, bread making, and even my side hobby of Barbie collecting are all things that we can enjoy away from our phones. By the way, you can see my Barbie collection here.

What’s In My Analog Bag

For me, I have a smaller coloring book and some colored pencils. I also enjoy markers, but I usually don’t take those with me unless I’m traveling a long distance. I also like to take my journal in my bag. Journaling has become a regular habit for me, and I think it is so beneficial. Pretty pens and highlighters make writing and journaling more satisfying.

Small note pads are also good for jotting down to-do lists or ideas that you want to refer to later. This set was a gift from my mom. They are light weight, pretty, and easily fit in your bag. I know you can make a list on your phone, but I just prefer a pen and paper most of the time. I love to search for notebooks and journals at Home Goods, T.J. Maxx, and Target.

Another thing I have in my analog bag is my planner. Yes, I use my phone for appointments but my planner is my preferred way to keep track of things. Seeing the month or week at a glance helps me organize my time better. I also keep all my blog content on my paper planner.

Puzzle books of all kinds are perfect for your analog bag. I discovered a new one recently called “Murdle”. It’s a puzzle book of murder mystery clues that reminds me of the board game “Clue” that I used to play growing up. You are given a set of clues, and with reasoning and deduction you solve the case.

Other Ideas For Your Own Digital Detox Bag

  • cardmaking
  • crossword puzzles, sudoku, word search
  • books (yes, you can use a Kindle but I prefer a real book)
  • jewelry making
  • journaling
  • coloring, drawing
  • colored pens and highlighters

The Perfect Analog Tote

You can use any bag that fits your needs. Check your closet and find a tote bag that you haven’t used in a while and give it a purpose. Of course, you could shop for the perfect bag if you don’t have one. Here are some ideas.

I picked up this adorable spring themed puffer tote bag from Target. The whimsical print and pastel colors really spoke to me. It is also available in solid colors.

Have you heard of the analog bag? Maybe you already have one, but didn’t know that was what it was called. Well, I’m loving mine and I encourage you to find the peaceful joy of putting your phone aside for a while and resetting our overwhelmed brains.

If you do have an analog bag, share in the comments what is in yours!
