Black outfit with red mary jane ballet flats

I recently purchased some red Mary Jane style ballet flats from Target. They are the Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats and I highly recommend them. They have a trending square toe and are very comfortable. I did size down a half size. I also have them in black! For this reason, I’m using them for all these outfit ideas; however you could swap them out for any red ballet flat that you like.

How To Wear Red Ballet Flats: Outfit Ideas

Style Tip

When wearing a bold colored shoe, let it be the focus of the outfit. You can do this by keeping the rest of the outfit neutral and simple. Monochromatic looks are a great way to show off a red shoe and there are several examples of that concept in these outfit ideas.

Classic Black Dress

This simple black dress is the perfect classic silhouette for the red ballet flats. This dress would be a good piece to have in your wardrobe for so many occasions. It is a soft knit fabric and runs true to size. I’m wearing a medium.

Striped Tee + Denim

Red ballet flats are also perfect paired with denim. This outfit incorporates a classic black and white striped tee from J. Crew Factory. I love this tee and it comes in other colors as well. It runs a little big, and I’m wearing a size small.

Shirt Dress + Red Ballet Flats

Wearing red ballet flats with a shirt dress gives a very structured, business-like look a bit of playfulness. Here are two outfit ideas with red shoes and shirts dresses.

The first shirt dress is a bit more feminine because of the puff sleeves. This is such a great quality fabric that it reminds me of a piece I would see at Talbots. At under $40, it is a much better price point that Talbots and it comes in 15 colors. I’m wearing the navy in a size M.

Here is what this dress looks like without the belt (which I added). Just a little reminder of how much better you will look if you define your waist.

The second style shirt dress is much less structured, and I would only wear this for running errands or for very casual occasions. It is, however, super comfortable and perfect for late summer to early fall type weather.

I ordered a size M in the grey stripe. I like the fact that it is longer in the back so there is plenty of coverage. I do think belting this style would have made it too short for me, but I don’t think this one is unflattering unbelted since the fabric drapes nicely.

I will point out that there are slits on the side that do show a bit a let, and if that bothers you I would not order this particular style. Here are a couple other views. Keep in mind that I am 5’7″, so sometimes dresses are shorter on me.

All White With Pop Of Red

Remember, there is no need to put away your white jeans. Wear them in fall and winter too! Here is a classic combination that you probably already have in your closet. Pairing the red ballet flats with this outfit really takes it to the next level and makes the shoes stand out.

Monochromatic Skirt Outfits + Red Ballet Flats

The last two outfit ideas are both with black skirts. One is a midi length pleated style skirt, and the other is a black satin slip skirt. If you missed my post on how to wear a satin slip skirt, click here.

This outfit is so simple, yet elegant and the red shoes just give it a pop of color! The short sleeve mock neck sweater is from Target. I also bought it in two other colors since I enjoy wearing these in early fall when the weather is still quite warm where I live.

My satin slip skirt is from Old Navy, and I’m wearing a medium. It is available in five colors, regular, tall , and petite and sizes xs-4x.

A slip skirt is honestly not going to flatter every body type, and they are not very forgiving in the tummy area, so if you don’t feel comfortable in a slip style skirt, consider a pleated midi skirt instead. This one is very flattering and comes in several colors.

My daughter got the brown polka dot style, and it is so cute for fall!

Will you be wearing red shoes this fall? How about specifically red ballet flats? No matter which style shoe you pick, you can use these tips to add some color to your outfit with a bold shoe. Remember if you see an image that you like to save it to your Pinterest board!
