Whether you’re heading to the office or out for a weekend brunch, ballet flats are the perfect mix of style and comfort. In this article, we will explore the world of ballet flats for fall, from different styles to styling tips and everything in between. So slip into your favorite pair and let’s get started!
The Evolution Of Ballet Flats In Fashion
Designers like Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent popularized ballet flats in the 1950s and 1960s, making them a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Ballet flats soon fell out of favor, fading into the background of the Y2K movement before having a resurgence in the 2010s as people began to embrace workwear. Often paired with skinny jeans, ballet flats were worn by celebrities and all kinds of women.
For 2024, the ballet flats trend is surging again, with a few moderations that make them relevant and interesting. So what specific styles of ballet flats are on trend for fall 2024? Let’s look at that now!
Current Trends
Rounded or Square Toe
Although you will see some pointed toe versions, the most trending ballet flat style has a rounded or square toe.
The Felicia ballet flat by Sam Edelman is a quality, and classic style that comes in two colors and three different widths (narrow, med, and wide).
For a more affordable option, the Amazon Essentials Women’s Belice Ballet Flat. They have over 47,000 five-star reviews on the site. You can also shop them in over 20 prints and colors ranging from neutrals to a fun cheetah print. At under $25, you can’t go wrong!
This neutral pair of square toed ballet flats is from Amazons House Brand, The Drop. I personally have this pair and love them! They come in ten different styles/colors, and are under $40.
Mary Jane Style
Classic style trends are being carried out in shoe trends with the Mary Jane style ballet flats. I’m here for this style and if you have narrow feet and struggle with shoes slipping off your heels, you will love the strap on this style shoe.
I purchased this style in two colors: the neutral and black. I did size down a whole size in these, so they run a bit big.
Another trend is burgundy or red for fall, and I couldn’t resist this red Mary Jane style from Target!
Mesh Fabric
Here is another modern update to the ballet flat: mesh fabric. You will be seeing variations of this style from high end to more affordable brands. I recently picked up this pair at Target, and they are adorable. This is also the perfect transition to fall shoe, since it is breathable and not too hot.
Two Toned Ballet Flats
Every brand has their version of the Chanel inspired two toned ballet flat. I think this is one of the most elegant style flats to have in your wardrobe, and you can find it at any price point that works with your budget!
This pair is from Amazon, and they also feature another trend in shoes…bow detail!

Tweed
Other classic style element is tweed fabric, and we are seeing this play out in womens fall shoes. Who doesn’t love the elegant chic look of tweed? Check out these great options for fall:
