Have you ever considered a tulle skirt and then hesitated because you thought you were too old to wear it, or maybe it was too dressy? Today we will discuss how to wear a tulle/mesh skirt and put to rest any myth or worries you might have about wearing one…especially if you are over 50 like myself.
Style Tip:
The most important thing to remember about wearing a tulle skirt is that the top that you pair it with matters a lot! Since tulle can give off “little girl princess” vibes, a good tip is to keep the top sleek and simple for a balanced look.
A tulle skirt makes a statement, so the rest of your outfit should be toned down to give you a sophisticated overall look. This way, you will not look overdressed or juvenile.
For a more preppy style, you could wear a collared button down shirt under a crew neck sweater with the tulle skirt.
My Favorite Way To Style A Tulle/Mesh Skirt
I purchased this layered tulle/mesh skirt back in 2021 from Amazon. I even featured it in a blog post. Since then, I have worn it a few times and always held onto it because I love it so much. Lately, I’ve been seeing it pop up on Pinterest a lot, and it inspired me to get the skirt out and show it to you again.
I wore this outfit to church last week, and it’s such a fun piece to have in your wardrobe. I like to wear a simple, fitted black sweater with this skirt. Since the skirt has a lot of volume, a more fitted top looks best to balance out the proportions.
About The Fit:
Looking back at my Amazon purchase history, the exact skirt that I’m wearing is almost sold out and only came in a one size fits most. Since then, there are several versions of this skirt that look almost identical. The version that I linked does come in XS-XL which I think will make finding the right fit much easier.
The elastic waistline is not the most attractive, so I prefer to wear this with either a belt, or the top untucked.
The Outfit:
I’m wearing my favorite fitted mock neck sweater from Loft. I’ve mentioned this top before, and I will be wearing it on repeat all winter. It comes in several colors, and I have already ordered three more.
The tulle skirt also comes in solid black and a few other color combinations, but I still like the tan/black combo the best. I think this would make a great holiday outfit idea or would be pretty for a wedding/special occasion.
For this photo, I chose my suede ankle boots, but you could also wear tall boots or heels.
I hope you will go ahead and wear a tulle skirt if you like them. We have seen how to style it in a modern and sophisticated way that is lovely for any age woman.
