We all go through seasons of life that are more challenging than others. Today’s post is a little different because I’m not sharing outfits or makeup. I want to share 5 things that I do every day to enhance my life. These are fairly simple, but really make life more pleasant and help bring me joy.
Quiet Time With God
As a Christian, my faith in God is central to everything else in my life. This means that communication with Him is something that I have the privilege of taking part in every day. If you share this faith, then I would encourage you to have some quiet time with God everyday. It doesn’t have to be a formal thing. If you need a bible recommendation, I like this one.
I like to have my quiet time in the mornings, but sometimes I also do it in the evenings. It can be sitting outside and just meditating on God’s creation or reading a bible verse, or doing a formal bible study. There is no right or wrong way to do this, and I promise this will enhance your life.
Be Active
As a lifelong avoider of exercise, I know how difficult this can be! I wish I loved it…I really do! Here is the key ladies…find something that you enjoy. If you don’t enjoy it, you won’t do it. A few months ago, I discovered Pickleball. It has changed my whole perspective on being active ,and I enjoy it for the exercise as well as the friendships that I am developing through the sport.

I also love to walk, and I am fortunate enough to live right next to the walking trail and my neighborhood is also a great environment for walking. I feel so much better as my activity has increased dramatically in the past 6-8 months. To read more about how I’m staying active in my 50’s, you might enjoy this post.
Get Dressed For Your Day
If you work outside the home, then this one is a given. You have no choice but to dress for your job. If, however, you work from home like I do, then it get’s tempting to just stay in sweatpants all day.
Getting dressed for your day looks different for everyone, but what it means is that you make an effort to look put together for whatever your day requires.
If you aren’t leaving the house, then take some time to shower, put on a little makeup, and fix your hair. This could be as simple as a cute lounge outfit, a tinted moisturizer, and a ponytail. The point is to get ready for the day and it will enhance your mood and productivity.

Get Sunlight
It is a scientific fact that Vitamin D can improve depression. As someone who has struggled with depression most of my adult life, sunlight is crucial to my emotional well being. Even if you do not have clinical depression, sunlight is the most natural mood booster.
I prefer to go outside to get natural light, but if it’s a rainy day I try to open the blinds and get as much natural light as I can.
Control The Clutter
Another thing I do everyday to enhance my life is to control the clutter in my surroundings. My house doesn’t always look perfect, but when I start to feel tense and anxious a good decluttering usually helps. Here are some practical ways to control the clutter:
- Keep the kitchen counters clean
- Have a designated place for keys, handbags, and mail
- Keep the kitchen sink clean and free of dirty dishes
- Make Your Bed
- Use baskets for shoes, toys, and other small items
- Keep the inside of your car clean
I purchased this shelf to hang in our hallway next to the garage. It’s a perfect landing place for purses, jackets, and keys.
Bonus Tip
One last thing that certainly enhances my life are my dogs. Pets are a big responsibility, and you should not take them on unless your lifestyle makes it favorable for you and your fur babies. My dogs are so therapeutic for me and I can’t imagine life without them.
So I would add love on your pets everyday to this list. They will love you back in return and enhance your life every day!

Your red dog…in your lap with the green pants…looks a lot like my sweet Riley, except Riley looks like he has on black eyeliner and black tips on his ears, nose and tail. He was from a rescue organization and is so beautiful that people were always asking what he was. I did a DNA and found out he’s a chihuahua, Australian cattle dog, Pomeranian, small French poodle, dachshund mix. Do you know what your guy/gal is? I always enjoy your posts.

Hi Kathy, Molly is also a rescue. Her DNA test showed predominately Miniature Pinscher, Dachsund, and Chihuahua. There were several other breeds, but those were the highest percentage. Thanks for reading!
