I love trying new makeup, but there are a few products that have made their way to the top of my favorites list. If you’ve been following along here for a long time, many of these will not be new to you. These are the best makeup products of all time for me personally, and the ones I reach for the most. Whether it be blog photos, a special occasion, or just an average day, I can count on these to help me look my best every time I use them.
This is not an extravagant look, but it works for many occasions. I like to use these particular products for photos because they are neutrals and go with many outfit changes.
The Products I Used
So what are my best makeup products of all time? Here is the run down:
- e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer
- L’oreal True Match Nude Tinted Serum
- Lancome Teint Idole Concealer
- IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Powder
- Too Faced Natural Matte Eyeshadow Palette
- L’oreal Sky High Mascara in Brown
- Too Face Natural Face Palette
- Maybelline Lifter Gloss
The Details:
The e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer is my favorite primer because large pores and texture are my biggest skin issues. I have tried much more expensive pore filling primers, and the e.l.f. is my favorite.
My favorite foundation of all time is the L’oreal True Match Nude. I use the shade 1-2.5 in the fall/winter months and the shade 3-4 when I have a tan. See this post for my full review of this foundation.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Concealer: I’ve been using this for a couple of years and I really don’t use anything else. My shade is 090. I only use a dot under each eye and it blends beautifully. I have tried the iconic Tarte Shape Tape and it is too thick for me…so if you like a thinner formula you might want to try the Lancome.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Setting Powder: This has been a go-to setting powder for years. There are a couple of less expensive powders that I use occasionally like the e.l.f. High Definition Setting Powder and the NYX Mineral Matte Finishing Powder, but the It Cosmetics is by far my favorite!
Too Face Natural Matte Eyeshadow Palette: This palette is getting harder to find and I suspect they are not making it anymore. I did find it on Amazon. It is a little more expensive, but I’ve had mine for at least 3 years and it’s still going strong.
I love this palette because of the neutral matte shades and I use the darker colors as eyeliner, which eliminates the need for a separate eyeliner in my routine.
If you can’t find this palette, the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette is very similar and is most affordable on Amazon. The main difference is that the Natural Eyes palette includes some shimmers, but the shades are lovely. I have both palettes, but I use the matte one more often.
I have used more mascaras than I can count. I’ve never had one that stood out leaps and bounds above the others. The one that I’m currently using and I think compares to a high end brand is the Maybelline Sky High Lash Sensational Mascara. I use the shade True Brown instead of a dark black. I find that brown is a bit softer and flattering for my age. It also comes in a waterproof version.
Let’s move on to the face. The best makeup products of all time must include the Too Face Natural Face Palette! This is the sister palette to the eyeshadow that I mentioned earlier. The packaging is so luxe and it has everything you need for contour, blush, and highlight all in one place.
Amazon’s price for this palette is $39.99 which is a deal for a high end brand. If you bought these products individually it would be much more expensive. You get two contour (bronze) shades, two blushes, and two highlighting shades.
In all of today’s photos I’m wearing Tropic Like It’s Hot for contour, Pink Wink for blush, and Satin Sheets for a highlight.
Finally, there is the greatest lippie of all time…the Maybelline Lifter Gloss. I have nearly every shade and I’m wearing Bubble Gum in today’s photos. I find that these are long lasting and I rarely wear a lipstick underneath them.
Some of the lighter shades do wear well over a lipstick if you want to layer them, but the more pigmented shades do just fine on their own in my opinion.
So there you have the greatest makeup of all time according to my personal experience on less than perfect midlife skin. What are your personal favorites? Let me know in the comments below.

Thank you for including Too Faced products. So many bloggers recommend Tarte eyeshadow and blush which turn a muddy orange on my skin. Too Faced products tend to stay true to color. I need to try the Lancôme concealer
