Are you tired of struggling to find the right makeup routine for your mature skin? Look no further, because I have the essential tutorial you’ve been searching for. As we age, our skin goes through various changes that can make finding the perfect makeup routine seem like an impossible task. But fear not, because with the right tips and techniques, you can enhance your natural beauty and achieve a flawless and radiant complexion. With this makeup tutorial, we will see how some new products look on my 53 year old skin. This will be a simple, every day sort of look that only takes a few minutes!
As always, I am starting with clean skin that has already been prepped with my morning skincare routine, which includes moisturizer and sunscreen. To see my full morning and evening skincare routine click here.
Tatcha The Silk Canvas
I’m always on the hunt for a pore disguising primer, so I decided to give this one by Tatcha a try. This is a very smooth and light formula that did a good job of minimizing my pores and texture without leaving my skin feeling too slippery. I’ve tried many primers that claim to disguise pores, only to be disappointed, but this one is a winner!
To keep the price down, I purchased the mini size for $24, which is what I linked for you. It’s a good amount and a good way to try the product for yourself.
Simply Ageless Skin Perfector Essence
If you like a very natural, skin-like finish you will want to try this Covergirl Simply Ageless Skin Perfector Essence. This is a completely new product to me, and I saw it on YouTube. It is supposed to rival the very expensive Chanel version. According the the Cover Girl Website this is formulated with:
- SKINCARE + MAKEUP HYBRID: Formulated with Tranexamic Acid, the potent tone-improving essence fades the appearance of existing
- dark spots
- MICRODROPLET TECHNOLOGY: Pigmented capsules blend easily to distribute a sheer, even tint for a radiant bare-skin filter effect
- CLEAN & VEGAN FORMULA: Made up of 98% natural origin ingredients.
- LIGHTWEIGHT, GEL TEXTURE: Contains 71% water that provides an instant burst of moisture upon application and hydrates skin for up to
- 4 hours
- SKIN-LIKE FINISH: Complexion looks plump, retreshed and more youthful
- Based on a consumer study of 115 women after one week of use
- 91% say skin feels smooth
- 89% say skin looks fresh & healthy and formula feels lightweight
So exactly what is an essence? By definition it is a lightweight, watery liquid that is used in skincare to provide an extra layer of hydration to the skin. This Product by Covergirl has microdroplet technology which are pigmented capsules that burst and create a sheer, even tint for your skin.
Here is what is looks like out of the bottle:
I’m wearing the shade 30 Light/Medium. I think I could have gone one shade darker.
This is not a full coverage foundation, but I really like the fresh and natural appearance of my skin. The camera is very unforgiving and I actually think it looks better in person than in the photos. I think the moisture that it provides and the light coverage will be nice for spring and summer when I want a minimal makeup look.
Concealer
My favorite concealer has been the Lancome Teint Idole for quite some time. That has not changed. I place a small dot under each eye where I have discoloration.
What I have recently added is this Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment in the shade 160 (which has pink undertones). The pink really brightens the under eye area and I also use it on my eyelids to brighten and even out the skin tone.
Eyes
On days when you want a quick and easy eyeshadow look, all you really need is a bronzer in the crease. Since you already have the pink concealer on the lid, a quick swipe of a contour or bronzer will give your eyes some definition.
This face palette from Tarte has a bronzer, blush, and highlight all in one. In fact, it comes in a 3-pack for only $36! For this look, I used the Everyday Essentials (white palettte) shade soft bronze.
To finish the eyes, I used the Tarte Quick Stick Warm Brown Eyeliner in the upper water line and the e.l.f. Lash ‘N Roll Mascara in Deep Brown. The final step is to touch up my brows with the Maybelline Brow Scuplt in Soft Brown.
NYX Mineral Matte Finishing Powder
For a pore minimizing powder for mature skin, I like the NYX Mineral Matte Finishing Powder. I use it sparingly in the T-zone. I also like the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Powder, but for everyday the NYX works just as well and it much less expensive.
Contour
I have fallen in love with the Maneater Silk Stick Contour by Tarte in the shade Sundown. It’s the perfect color for my skintone…not too warm or orange. It really helps define my cheekbones and sculpt my face in just a few seconds.
Cheeks
Blush is a must-have for my mature skin makeup routine. No makeup tutorial would be complete without it! A new addition to my collection is another Tarte product…this beautiful cool toned pink blush called Energy.
Lips
Your mature skin makeup tutorial wraps up with two lip products that are also recent purchases. First, the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lipstick in the shade Rose. I topped that off with the Tarte Majacuja Juicy Lip Plump Gloss in the shade Mixed Berries.
I purchased the Lip Plump Gloss in a 5 pack.
We’ve seen several products in this makeup tutorial that are winners for mature skin! For more tips on how to apply your makeup to look younger, be sure to check out this post! I’ve featured a lot of Tarte products; however, this post is not sponsored . I just love their makeup!

You are beautiful without the make up. 😊 But I love how light and natural this looks on your face.
